About the author, Kate Naylor, freelance copywriter, Brighton.

I’m Kate Naylor. I’ve lived and worked in Brighton since 1982 when I left deepest Yorkshire to take a degree at Brighton College of Art & Design. I’ve been in Brighton ever since and am now based out in the ‘burbs, where my home studio has fabulous sea and South Downs views.

I’ve worked in direct marketing for the last twenty years. But it wasn’t long before I realised that the thing I loved about marketing was actually the words. The copy. Communicating in writing.

The beauty, flexibility and sheer persuasive power of the written word has charmed me from the moment I could read. I love my work. I’m one of those really sad people who would keep working even if they won the lottery.

My passion for words means I deliver copy that’s good enough to eat. And powerful enough to blow the bloody doors off!

I do freelance copywriting of all kinds:

  • copywriting for direct marketing projects, online and offline
  • website content creation
  • website editing with an SEO (search engine optimisation) focus
  • blog entries and power pages
  • brochures, leaflets, fliers and direct mail letters
  • email campaigns
  • integrated direct marketing and communications campaigns
  • white papers and articles
  • press releases, case studies and testimonials
  • direct marketing advice: strategic and tactical input for marketing-led projects (targeting, USPs, messaging, tone, style…)

On the home front, long distance walking and urban hiking keep me out of trouble… it’s the new clubbing! I love to paint (abstracts, semi-abstracts and landscapes in acrylic on canvas or board) and draw cartoons: here’s a link to my decor-works gallery site.

Interior decoration’s one of my biggest pleasures. And I’m a very keen gardener, treating ours like an outdoor room full of sculptures, secret areas and visual surprises.

I also write and illustrate my own books.  Here’s a link to the latest creation, You CANNOT buy my forgiveness with cheesecake, a collection of eccentric snippets of conversation overheard in Brighton & Hove’s clubs, pubs, streets and cafes. You can download the short colour version for free, or buy the 108 page hardback book.

Too busy indulging in creativity to want children, Tony and I have Molly, Alice and Betty instead. They’re cats.

Enjoy!
